MEDIA RELEASE - 27th December 2012
“Are you ready for Passion in 2013?”
that is the question which is being asked all around North Northumberland at the turn of the New Year.
The ‘Passion’ in question is Easter Passion Play to be staged in Alnwick Market Square on Good Friday (March 29th) 2013. The event organisers are seeking cast members, extras and volunteers to join them in this ambitious project.
“We have a script, a choir and we have cast most of the lead roles,” says Artistic Director, Chris Jones, “but this will be an open air stage production on a grand scale. We are looking for community members with a sense of occasion to join us in this unique project.
“There are jobs, too for back-stage helpers. We want this to be a production by the community for the community. We invite anyone who would like to be involved to get in touch through our website or by contacting me direct on 07766 477016.”
“As far as we know there has never been an open air Passion Play performed in Alnwick before,” says Chris Friend, Chair of the Passion for Northumberland project. “Our aim is to bring the amazing story of Easter to life for a 21st century audience. By setting drama in a contemporary context using the natural theatre of Alnwick Market Place, we expect the production to appeal to all ages.”
Alan Symmonds, Mayor of Alnwick, comments: “Having attended college in York, I was inspired by their Mystery Plays. I am delighted to hear about the plans to bring a passion play to Alnwick Market Place next year. I am sure that it will be a night for us all to remember.”
